Are you kidding? A spear for an ele?

It has been said that there is not another weapon more perfect for fire ele's then rago's. I have one and would not replace it with anything.

You can squeeze a bit more energy out of a wand/focus combination.

Otherwise Ragos is pretty cool.

Rago's is the only green staff with those stats in the game. But you can make a counterpart, it wont have the skin or the name but there's no difference between using the counterpart or rago's except maybe prestige if you care about such things.

Spirit of the Forgotten is an excellent spear for an ele in many situations. You'll get your 20% longer enchants and +5 energy, and still be able to select targets through 'attacking' (eg hitting space/left clicking them), without having to go into melee range, as you would with a Totem Axe for instance.

Obviously you sacrifice attack damage, unless you are /P and have points in spear mastery.

You can have +60 health AND +17 energy from a spear+focus, or +30 health, +17 energy and 20% enchant.
You lose your 40/40, but it's worth it. You can still have 20/20 if you need to.

Actually, spear+shield is best for a caster.
(tip: it's called weapon swapping)

Not that I'm against using a weapon in your primary hand (I use Rajazan's Ferver), but you can easily target an enemy without having to close to melee range. Simply use control-shift-space to announce "I'm targeting Drizzle Flip" or whatever.

Having said that, Rago's is still the Fire Ele's weapon of choice because:
1) It's got good stats
2) It has a nice skin
3) It has "mystique". It was the first and most highly sought-after nuker green. Often duplicated, never matched.

It is still one of the only Prophecies greens that hasn't gone down in price much...

I dont see any reason that you make sense. the only thing a staff had over a spear and offhand is more attack damage. spear + offhand has more energy, can get a prefix and suffix mod, and whatever mods you want on the offhand.

silly

I don't see why you would choose anything over a staff for an Ele. It's not like they need the extra energy from a wand/weapon+offhand anyway.. At least with a staff, you can now have more cast/recharge mods. Of course, there's still dual HP/Defense mods too.

You wouldn't. Staff or wand/offhand is the only way to go, one that you can meet the requirements.
